The Goal
It began with a simple question. While playing Pac-man on a JAKKS 5-in-1 TV Games box, Elizabeth was annoyed with how the controller felt in her hands. She wanted something solid, something like the old arcade machines. Then she asked the question. And to her surprise, the answer wasn't just "yes", but "exactly like an old arcade machine."
That was how ElLa (ELizabeth - LArry) Project got started. It's goal is to recreate the old school arcade experience in Larry and Elizabeth's home. The goal of this web site is to serve as a guide for those that have asked the same question and want to construct their own arcade machine.
The Plan
Take an old computer, installing software to play old arcade games, and then placing it within an arcade style enclosure.
The Materials
- Personal Computer
- Monitor
- MAME Softeware and ROMs
- I-Pac Controller Board
- Joysticks and Buttons
- Arcade Cabinet
Phase One
Phase one uses parts from an old computer desk as a platform for the joysticks and buttons. This phase serves two purposes. First, it allows for experimenting and fine tuning with the joystick and button layout. Second, it is a step closer to the arcade experience, while a permanent cabinet is located or built.
Phase Two
Phase two will convert an existing upright arcade cabinet to house the components. An old Centipede cabinet has been acquired for this purpose.
